"About the Department of Energy Sciences and Technologies..
Energy is the basis for economic and social progress. Global energy production and consumption are increasing as countries invest in industrialisation and progress. Fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil and coal as well as renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, wave energy and biomass are used to meet the ever-increasing demand for energy.
For sustainable progress, it is necessary to consume non-renewable energy sources according to plan and to utilise more renewable energy sources. This can be achieved through the development of economic, social, environmental and political policies. The existence and support of institutions that are active in the research and development of energy systems and that produce qualified expertise and technologies is important for the development of such policies.
The "Energy Sciences and Technologies" degree programme, which was founded in 2014 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Turkish-German University, aims to meet the need for education and research due to developments in the field of energy. The aim is to train scientists and experts who have an understanding of energy and the associated environmental aspects and economic problems and who can develop new solutions in the field of energy technology.
In their first year, students on the Energy Sciences degree programme take courses in the basic natural sciences. In the following years, they acquire knowledge in important technological areas such as energy use, storage and recycling as well as energy policies, energy optimisation, measurement and control. The aim is for the study programme to also include economic, ecological and social topics such as energy demand, energy sources and climate change.
The four-year Bachelor's degree programme comprises theoretical courses and a dissertation. The programme is taught in German. The courses are taught by Turkish and German lecturers. Students will have the opportunity to take advantage of the close co-operation between the Turkish-German University and German universities and complete part of their studies at a research institute in Germany or at a German university.
Graduates of the Energy Sciences and Technologies programme can find a wide range of employment opportunities as designers or users in the fields of energy production, management, distribution and use. Our graduates can work in many public institutions such as the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Energy Market Management Council, the General Directorate of Petroleum, the Turkish Atomic Energy Research Institution or the Electricity Distribution Corporation of Turkey. You can work on national and international projects in the private sector of our country, which is an energy bridge between three continents.
The Department of Energy Science and Technology will start accepting students in the 2021-2022 academic year.
